Cisco Systems. May 2009-Present.
Field Trainer.
Develop and teach classes to channel-partner systems engineers on security, routing, and switching. Classes teach engineers how to configure and support secure networks with firewall, network admission control (NAC), and intrusion prevention system (IPS) technologies. Classes are taught online using WebEx and customized scripts for remote access to six racks of actual equipment.

Independent Consultant.
Provide network design, configuration, and troubleshooting services. Teach network, security, and forensics experts from government, law enforcement, industry, and academia how to design, maintain, protect, and analyze network and computer systems.

Southern Oregon University, Computer Science Department. 2003-2008.
Adjunct Professor.
Designed and taught networking, security, and forensics courses to undergraduate students. Designed and managed a lab with Windows and Linux workstations, Cisco IOS routers and switches, and PIX firewalls. Helped lead a Counter Terrorism event that taught crime-scene investigation to computer science, criminology, and chemistry students, with the help of professional law enforcement representatives.

Cisco Systems. 1995-1998.
Technical Program Systems Engineer.
Developed technical training materials for Cisco's customers and employees, including Cisco Internetwork Design V2.0, Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting V3.0, Designing Cisco Networks V1.0, and Designing Switched WAN and Voice Solutions V1.0. Also developed a New Hire Exam for Cisco's systems engineers, including PERL scripts to automate the grading of the exam.

Network General Corporation (now part of NetScout). 1990-1995.
Training Manager, Senior Instructor, Senior Course Developer, LANGuru™ Consultant.
Developed and delivered courses on Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, TCP/IP, NetWare, AppleTalk, DECnet, Windows networking, SMB, NetBIOS, Banyan, and SNA. Courses cover in-depth theory, protocol analysis and troubleshooting. Managed nine instructors. Duties included LANGuru consulting, requiring successful troubleshooting of complex design, connectivity, interoperability, and performance problems on mission-critical, enterprise networks at Fortune 500 companies.

Apple Computer, Inc.. 1986-1990.
Senior Support Engineer.
Trained pre-sales systems engineers on networking technologies, including TCP/IP, routing technologies, AppleTalk, and serial communications. Provided technical support to 3rd-party developers of Macintosh software and hardware products. Solved developers' problems in debugging and understanding technical details of the Macintosh system.

Excelan, Inc. (bought by Novell, Inc). 1985-1986.
Systems Software Programmer.
Designed and coded C libraries to implement menu-driven user interface for multiplexer product that allows TCP/IP terminal users to access the Ethernet LAN. Developed programs in Microsoft C for IBM PC-DOS.

Apple Computer, Inc.. 1983-1985.
Software Engineer.
Designed and implemented a protocol to allow the Macintosh to act as a remote graphics workstation. Designed and coded C libraries for UNIX applications programmers to interface to the remote graphics workstation. Developed software to let the Lisa microcomputer emulate a VT100 or IBM 3278 terminal.

Matson Navigation Co. 1981-1983.
Systems Analyst.
Designed and coded in IBM Series/1 assembly language software to automate shipyards. Wrote programs that control the communications link between a Series/1 minicomputer and automated overhead cranes. Installed system at the Ports of Richmond and Los Angeles, California.

University of Chicago. 1980-1981.
Programmer/Analyst.
Designed distributed database system for University of Chicago library system. Implemented system using the PL/1 programming language, Indexed Access Method on the IBM Series/1 minicomputer, and IMS on IBM 370.
