What is the best-case estimate of how much time it would take to send a CD worth of photos (640 MB) to a server if you have a 10-Mbps Ethernet connection?
This is 8.5 minutes, so go get a cup of coffee while you do this upload!
Remember that this is just a best-case estimate. There are many factors that will cause your actual throughput to be less than this. For one thing, we aren't worrying about whether 640 Megabytes really means 640 x 1024 x 1024 x 8 bits, rather than 640 x 1000 x 1000 x 8 bits. Also another important factor that will affect throughput is the fact that most CD-ROM drives are rather slow at reading data from the CD.
