Affidavit of Probable Cause

I, Lisa Law, a law enforcement officer in the State of Jefferson, attest to the fact that on 1/17/05, an unauthorized intrusion was discovered into the computer systems at the Bureau of Mountain Management. Investigation into this incident revealed that the intruder(s) had obtained so-called ÒrootÓ or system administrator level access into the Bureau of Mountain Management systems, effectively giving them complete control of the systems. I have seen this activity repeated on several occasions over the past two months, specifically on 2/7/05, 3/1/05 and 3/21/05. On each occasion, the intruder transferred approximately 3 GB of unknown data from one or more Bureau file servers. Based on the identification number (IP number 192.168.0.9) logged by myself as the source of the intrusions, investigators were able to determine that the intrusions originated from LouisÕ Computer Repair Shop in Ashland, OR. The conduct described above provides reasonable grounds to believe that a number of federal statutes may have been violated, including 18 U.S.C., Chap. 47, Section 1030.
